California’s affordable housing crisis continues to escalate as the housing supply is unable to meet the ever-growing demand. San Diego-based Housing On Merit is a nonprofit co-developer, committed to addressing this crisis by working to preserve and develop affordable housing for vulnerable populations. Over time, the organization began to outgrow its office space in San Diego. Executive Director and CREW San Diego member Jennifer Litwak turned to local CREW Network members to help get her team settled into a new, Class A office space.

For help with telecommunications and IT infrastructure, Litwak sought expertise from Rebecca Bodemann, Vice President of Sales at Xpedient Communications. Litwak turned to Melissa Hayden, Project Manager at Lockrul Construction, to oversee construction and also worked with Account Executive Hallie Putterman, Bentley Mills, to finalize carpet selection.

Each CREW San Diego member was integral to Housing On Merit’s successful relocation into the new 3,000-square-foot, Class A office space in downtown San Diego. When they hit a minor setback, the CREW San Diego members pulled together to get the project done.

“Each CREW member involved was responsive and a leader in her space,” Litwak said. “Their relationships and connections helped to get my team moved into our new space in a timely and efficient manner.”

Housing On Merit’s relocation was the first project in which the CREW San Diego members collaborated; however, this was not the first time that they connected. The group has served together on various boards and committees within CREW Network’s San Diego chapter. Bodemann, Hayden and Litwak currently serve on the CREW San Diego Board of Directors, while Putterman served on the board in the past. Housing On Merit’s relocation was an incredibly efficient process, and Litwak believes that her CREW San Diego connections are the reason why.

“Throughout this process, I learned how powerful my network has become as a result of CREW.”
