CREW Network CEO Gail S. CREW Orlando members Jacqueline Bozzuto and Miranda F. Fitzgerald, attorneys with the law firm of Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor & Reed, P.A., were among 40 attorneys from their firm selected by The Best Lawyers in America® 2010. ICREW NJ member Terri Smith of Environmental Liability Management Inc. authored the article titled “Brownfield Options Abound,” which appeared in the October 2009 issue of Scotsman Guide Commercial Edition.


CREW Network President Jane Snoddy Smith, partner with the law firm Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P. and member of CREW Austin, was featured in the article titledEconomy Presents CRE Careers for Women,” which appeared in the May 7 issue of GlobeSt.com. In this article, Smith discusses the findings from CREW Network’s latest white paper, “Repositioning Your Real Estate Career to Succeed in an Era of Change.”  Smith also appeared in the May 11 issue of GlobeSt.com in a feature titled “Commentary with CREW’s Snoddy Smith,” discussing the current state of employment within commercial real estate.

CREW Alaska held a special one year anniversary celebration on October 21 during which they announced four awards in two categories: Networker of the Year and Sponsors of the Year.  Winners are:

East Bay CREW member Teresa Goodwin, PE and LEED AP, has launched PeopleSpaces Design Group – a space planning and design company specializing in tenant improvements for industrial and office projects.  Teresa’s business in located in Pleasanton, California.  Fellow East Bay CREW member Liana Epperson and her colleague Hans Lapping of Miller Starr Regalia provided the legal support and incorporation assistance, and Stephanie Reilly with Heffernan Insurance connected Teresa with colleague Ross Darby to provide insurance work.


CREW San Diego member Kelli Hill, director of business development for r3 Building Systems, reports that her company has completed its first building utilizing a new construction technology specifically designed to provide a green building solution that is less expensive and faster to build versus traditional construction.  The patent pending technology was exclusively utilized to design and construct the new LEED Gold Certified Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market in Cathedral City, California, which held its grand opening on September 24.


CREW Philadelphia member Sharon Humble, a partner in the law firm of LINEBARGER GOGGAN BLAIR & SAMPSON, LLP, reports that her firm was selected by PINK magazine as one of the Top Companies for Women for 2009.  Sharon’s firm was honored along with 14 other companies including American Express, Capital One, KPMG, Liz Claiborne, MetLife, Turner Broadcasting System and Wal-Mart. LGBS was the only law firm nationwide that received this honor.


CREW St. Louis member Karen Karwoski of UMB Bank St. Louis, n.a., a subsidiary of UMB Financial Corporation, was appointed Vice President and Senior Sales Officer for Treasury Management. Karen is responsible for offering UMB Treasury Management solutions to current clients, while helping bring solutions to new customers, in the St. Louis area.


East Bay CREW member Kristen Thall Peters, a partner at Cooper, White & Cooper LLP in Walnut Creek, California, received the Sustainable Purpose Award from the Women Presidents’ Organization in recognition of her valuable contributions to innovation in Successful Sustainability.  The Women Presidents’ Organization is a non-profit membership organization for women presidents of multimillion dollar companies.  Kristen co-chairs her firm’s Green Practice Group and publishes and frequently lectures on environmental land use and real estate issues.


Wisconsin CREW recently announced the winners of its 2009 Showcase awards, which recognize significant real estate development and redevelopment projects in Wisconsin. Projects that achieved substantial completion for occupancy or opened between July 1, 2006 and June 30, 2009 were considered by a panel of judges made up of community leaders and real estate professionals.

The Impact Award for Ingenuity winner was The Iron Horse Hotel located in Milwaukee, WI.  Project team members included: Dixon Development, LLC, The Kubala Washatko Architects, and Kelly Construction & Design.

The Vision Award for Ingenuity winner was 234 Florida Street located in Milwaukee, WI.  Project team members included: Pieper Properties, Inc., James Piwoni Architects, and Barthenheier Construction.

The Impact Award for Achievement winner was the Johnson Controls Global Headquarters Expansion located in Milwaukee, WI.  Project team members included: Johnson Controls, Gensler, and Hunzinger Construction Company.

The Vision Award for Achievement winner was the Prairie Apartments located in Milwaukee, WI.  Project team members included: Heartland Housing, Inc., The Guest House of Milwaukee, Continuum Architects + Planners, S.C., and VJS Construction Services, Inc.

The Judges’ Choice Award for Impact winner was the Milwaukee City Hall Restoration located in Milwaukee, WI.  Project team members included: the City of Milwaukee, Engberg Anderson, Inc., and JP Cullens & Sons, Inc.

The Judges’ Choice Award for Vision winner was The Keller Building located in Milwaukee, WI.  Project team members included: Keller Investments, LLC, HGA Architects & Engineers, Inc., and Dahlman Construction Company.


KC CREW member Rosana Privitera-Biondo, president, Mark One Electric Co. Inc., serves on the Kansas City, MO Workforce Board, which was recently awarded the Leadership in Labor-Management Cooperation Award by the Labor-Management Council of Greater Kansas City (LMC).  The KCMO Workforce Board, which monitors the recently-implemented ordinance enhancing the number of minorities and women hired for city-financed construction projects, is comprised of leaders from the labor, contractor and minority communities who helped craft the historic ordinance.  


CREW Detroit member Nicole Dombrowski recently accepted a position at Luna Tech Designs after a 6 month partnership, continuing as President of her company, Digital Visionz, which focuses on 3D interactive presentations for proposed developments. After getting more involved in the day to day operations of Luna Tech Designs to further develop a concept to promote existing real estate space in a 3D virtual globe environment, Nicole was offered the position of Vice President and Director of Real Estate Development.  She will be in charge of developing the GeoWeb interface to present commercial real estate online and in a virtual environment.  This includes CPIX database integration, corridor branding, DDA promotion and custom built economic development tools, all of which are built on the Google Earth platform for easy use and embedding into Web sites. 


CREW Detroit member Rachele Downs, vice president CB Richard Ellis | Brokerage Services, was selected by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for a Competitive Workforce to attend the Business LEADs Institute, a three-day seminar in Washington , D.C., on June 1 through 3.  Selected for her community leadership, Rachele joined 32 other business leaders from around the nation to learn how the business sector can utilize its assets to drive positive transformation in communities across America in education and workforce training.  The seminar, part of a $2.6 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is the first of five Business LEADs Institutes that will develop and train a network of business leaders to be effective advocates for improving America’s education system.


CREW Jacksonville member Brenda Ezell has opened Ezell Law Firm, of which she is the owner and sole shareholder. The firm specializes in all areas of commercial real estate and land development law.
CREW Greater Cincinnati member Kelly Fried recently joined Colliers Turley Martin Tucker in Cincinnati as second vice president with the firm’s Valuation & Consulting Group.  Fried was formerly with Phillips Edison where she was development services manager.


CREW Jacksonville member Melissa Gross-Arnold, Esq., shareholder at Lewis, Longman & Walker, P.A., has been appointed to a three-year term to the Economic Development Advisory Committee for the Clay County Chamber, effective October 1, 2009. 


KC CREW member Cydney Gurgens, manager and vice president of Wells Fargo Middle Market Real Estate and KC CREW past president, was selected as one of the five judges for this year’s Capstone Real Estate Awards.  The Capstone Awards recognize real estate development projects and transactions that enhance the Kansas City metropolitan area.  The judges evaluate everything from a project’s visual aesthetics to application of new technological concepts and relevance to the community.  


Incisive Media recently released its list of 2009 Northern California Real Estate Women of Influence.  A total of 36 women were honored for having made an outstanding contribution to the Northern California market in 2008. Recipients were chosen based on such areas as deals completed in the last year, lifetime career accomplishments, career goals, non-profit involvement and personal opinions on the future of the industry.  2009 Northern California Real Estate Women of Influence were honored at a luncheon underwritten by Allen Matkins Leck Gamble Mallory & Nasis LLP and   Sares Regis Group of Northern California and featured a small panel of honorees participating in a question and answer session.

Northern California’s Women of Influence Continue to Push Forward


Each year, the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) and the business journals from across the state recognize Pennsylvania's Best 50 Women in Business. This program successfully highlights the state's most dynamic and accomplished women business leaders, highlighting their contributions to business and the community, along with their abilities to overcome obstacles in their careers.
